One of the top qualities you should possess as an effective writer is ‘being diverse.’

As a diverse writer, you are able to cater for different types of content consumers. Believe it or not, your readers are diverse in the ways they read your content.

You don’t just assume that because you are writing for adults, they all read the same way and have the same level of understanding. You would be setting yourself up for heartbreak if you have this mindset.

In my last blog post, you discovered a unique group of readers – The Breezers. Are you, by any chance, a Breezer? LOL.

Alright, in this post, I will be revealing to you The Second Unique Types of Readers you should intentionally write for.

2. The Scanner

If you have ever scanned a document, then you have an idea of how this category of readers read your piece of writing.

Just like the scanner laser light runs through the document before reproducing it, these types of readers use their eyes to scroll through the whole writing first.

The following are some of the factors in your piece of writing that will determine if The Scanners want to read the entire piece or not.

• The layout
• The pattern
• The structure
• The organisation of texts
• The length or even
• The kind of words they can glimpse as they run through your piece

The Scanners are, ‘whole picture,’ or ‘total package’ kind of readers.

You know when customers ask, “What will I gain from this?”

Aha! That is a Scanner! They want to see – at a glance – what they stand to gain from reading your write up.

Of course the next thing that comes to your mind is how to cater for these types of readers, so hey, I gotcha!

How to write for The Scanners:

Distribute your keywords or main ideas evenly, throughout your piece of writing.

If you think dropping everything at the beginning of your writing will win the heart of your Scanner Readers, you are sorely mistaken.

This is because they want to see value all the way!

For your Scanner Readers, every sentence, paragraph, caption or list in your piece of writing must contain something important or valuable.

There you have your Second Unique Type of Readers – The Scanners! Do you know any Scanner? Are you one, yourself? LOL.
