THE FIRST UNIQUE TYPE OF READER YOU SHOULD KNOW

THE FIRST UNIQUE TYPE OF READER YOU SHOULD KNOW

by Uzoma Uduma / Wednesday, 30 September 2020 / Published in Uncategorized

So you want to write skillfully, creatively and prolifically.

Maybe you want to teach others how to write or even write your own book. Perfect! Take a look at what

these great personalities said, about writing:

“If a story is in you, it has to come out.” – William Faulkner.

“You only learn to be a better writer by actually writing.” – Doris Lessing.

And my favourite one is:

“Being a writer is not about your fame or the length of your work – it’s about what you do for your reader. If your reader cannot stop reading, then you should not stop writing.” – Susannah Birch.

You get the message, right? You should get those brilliant ideas in your head out there for others to read and you should write to impress.

Alright, let’s agree on one thing:

If you invest time and energy doing the writing, then certainly, you want someone to actually read it, isn’t it? Yes and yes? Okay!

Here are 3 reasons you need people to read your write-up:

  • You want them to enjoy reading your content.
  • You want them to be affected positively by what you have written.
  • You want them to give great reviews on your writing.

This is the dream of every writer. But the big question I hear you ask yourself is:

“How do I get the kind of readers that would appreciate my writing?”

To answer this, let me pose another question:

What types of readers are you writing for? Read that again.

This is a valid question that should inform your writing style. You don’t want to expend your energy and resources, writing for people who would not bother reading it. Oops, that would be very painful, wouldn’t it?

In this blog post – and in the next nine series – I will be revealing to you, 10 Unique Types of Readers to bear in mind when you’re writing. Knowing these categories of readers will help you write intentionally.

So I present to you, the First Unique Type of Reader you should know about so that your pieces of writing will target them.

1. The Breezer

These types of readers are breezing through your writing with their eyes, in search of words that catch their attention and interest. They gather these fascinating words and then form their own content the way they prefer, in their heads.

The Breezers’ brains are wired differently in terms of processing information, so don’t worry about them not grasping your content. Not that your worry would change the way they read, anyway. LOL.

They are not interested in reading every single word you’ve written down – nope – that’s just too slow for them; their brains are on overdrive (in a good way though).

What The Breezers do with your writing is similar to what people do when they are asked to ‘summarise.’

In a summary, you are capturing the whole idea – an entire write up – but in fewer words.

This is exactly what your Breezer Readers do with your piece of writing – they summarise your content in their heads, using the relevant words they have gathered by ‘breezing’ through your write up.

How to write for The Breezers:

Make sure you use relevant and related words generously in your writing.

For example:

If you are writing about Fashion, The Breezers are not interested in the history or importance of this subject matter. What they are interested in, are relevant words like:

  • Brand names
  • Designer clothing lines
  • Famous products and so on.

Another thing to know about The Breezers is that they grade the keywords they see according to importance.

The first groups of interesting words they see in your writing would be considered as ‘most important,’ so it is highly recommended that you mirror this in your writing.

Throw in your most essential words at the initial stage of your writing.

Ooookeydokey!

Now you know the First Type of Readers that consume your pieces of writing. It’s 1 down…and 9 to go!

  • How do you feel knowing about The Breezers?
  • Will knowing how they read your content make you more intentional now when you write?

I would really love to know your thoughts so please tell me in the comment section.

While you’re at that, let me go and compose the next post – I don’t want to keep you waiting for too long.

Talk to you soon…but not in the moon.
